Blackfriars is open free all year round from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. From High Town, walk along Widemarsh Street, cross the ring road and continue along Widemarsh Street. The entrance to Blackfriars is on your right hand side a little way past Coningsby Street and just past the school.
The rose bed we have sponsored will be planted by the Friends of Blackfriars Rose Gardens along with seven other beds on Monday, 28th October, beginning at 10:00, with a backup date of Tuesday, 29th October if the weather is bad. We can visit the gardens and observe the planting if we wish but a club visit is not planned at this stage. Our plaque will not be available yet as all the plaques are being removed for cleaning - they will be returned in April which is when our plaque will be there.
Our bed, which will be planted with Chandos Beauty roses, is close to the preaching cross – see the diagram below.
It is intended that a club visit will be arranged for next April when the roses come into bloom and we can 'unveil' our plaque. Hopefully this will be combined with a visit to the adjacent Coningsby Museum.
